Biggest infrastructure project in Coffs Harbour’s history
As Malaysia advances its journey toward a net-zero future, the demand for clean, reliable energy is accelerating – particularly from energy-intensive industries such as hyperscale data centres, which are projected to consume more than 5 GW of reliable power by 2035.
Recognising this need, Gamuda has entered into a landmark partnership with Gentari through Gentari Renewables Sdn Bhd, to develop approximately 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity through solar photovoltaic power plants paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Established under the national Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) framework, the new capacity is intended to meet the energy demands of strategic hyperscale data centre (DC) players.
The collaboration combines the complementary strengths of both organisations: Gentari’s expertise in developing and operating large-scale renewable energy assets – with more than 8GW of installed and under-construction capacity across its markets, and Gamuda’s proven regional track record in engineering, construction, and delivery of complex infrastructure, including renewable energy developments.
Beyond meeting immediate energy needs, this partnership reinforces Malaysia’s role as a regional digital economy hub. With cloud computing, AI and digital services driving exponential demand for hyperscale data centres, ensuring access to sustainable energy is critical to attract foreign direct investment and retain global technology leaders.
Together, Gentari and Gamuda are uniquely positioned to deliver scalable, bankable renewable energy solutions. By providing a dedicated pipeline of green energy, this partnership will enable hyperscale data centres to operate with greater reliability and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
