Gamuda JV completes M1 Pacific Motorway extension package ahead of schedule

GAMUDA Bhd’s Australian joint venture with John Holland has completed the Black Hill to Tomago package of the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace ahead of schedule.

The 10km southern section was delivered for Transport for New South Wales and includes a 2.6km viaduct over the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line and the New England Highway.

The completion marks Gamuda’s first road project in Australia since it established its local presence in March 2019.

The broader M1 Pacific Motorway extension involves a continuous 15km link between Black Hill and Raymond Terrace, which is on track to open to traffic in September 2026.

Jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments, the project has a combined investment of A$2.24 billion.

Most interchange movements are expected to be available when the road opens, with the remaining connections at the Tarro interchange to open progressively in the following weeks.

Gamuda Australia CEO Ewan Yee said completing the Black Hill to Tomago package ahead of schedule was a landmark achievement for the group.

Yee said the project demonstrated Gamuda’s delivery model and engineering capabilities, while reinforcing its commitment to Australia’s infrastructure sector.

Gamuda has expanded its Australian operations since 2019, with hubs in Sydney and Melbourne. Its portfolio in the country includes rail tunnelling, stations and renewable energy projects, as well as the Coffs Harbour Bypass Project. — TMR
