Before we embarked on the world-renowned SMART Tunnel in Malaysia, our subterranean expertise was already shaping international infrastructure. In a milestone project for Gamuda, we partnered with the Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation to deliver a critical 3.86 km segment of Taiwan's expansive 43 km MRT Orange Line.

Delivering complex underground transit networks in seismically active regions is a significant engineering and logistical feat. Executed through a strategic 50:50 joint venture with New Asia Construction & Development Corporation, our comprehensive design and construction scope moved far beyond standard excavation.

Engineering Resilience in Challenging Terrain

To seamlessly connect the city and lay the groundwork for a world-class transit system, our dedicated scope of works included:

• Complex Subterranean Tunnelling: Precision-boring two parallel underground tunnels through highly unpredictable geology.
• Modern Transit Hubs: Constructing two major underground stations designed for high-capacity passenger flow: the two-storey Fengshan Junior High School station and the expansive four-level Dadung station.

To navigate this demanding environment, we deployed advanced engineering expertise to successfully overcome exceptionally soft and wet subterranean conditions, which were further aggravated by the constant, unpredictable threat of earthquakes.

This approach allowed us to deliver vital infrastructure while maintaining the utmost respect for the surrounding community and ecology. After completion, our rigorous, uncompromising approach to environmental protection, meticulous quality control and robust project management earned us the prestigious Air Quality Protection Award and the National Environmental Protection Outstanding Award from the Government of Taiwan.
