Malaysia's first metro system- the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Kajang Line, was handled from conceptualisation to completion by our joint venture MMC Gamuda.

Pioneering the first Project Delivery Partner (PDP) model in Malaysia by taking on a single point of accountability, Gamuda guaranteed the delivery of the elevated section to safety, quality, time and cost.

Featuring world-class metro facilities complete with sustainable, energy-efficient features, the MRT Kajang Line aim to serve a catchment of 1.2 million people, connecting passengers travelling between populated residential, commercial centres and key employment hubs in the Klang Valley.

The line has 29 stations, of which seven are underground, and the world's first variable density tunnel boring machine (VD-TBM) was deployed for the underground portion of the alignment. The MRT Kajang Line is a symbol for greater and more seamless urban connectivity in Malaysia.

Redefining Metro Transit in the Klang Valley: The MRT Kajang Line

Malaysia’s very first metro system has reshaped the nation's approach to urban mobility. Handled entirely from conceptualisation through to final completion by our joint venture, MMC Gamuda, the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Kajang Line stands as a lasting symbol of seamless, modern connectivity.

Delivering a world-class transit system through a densely populated metropolis is a significant engineering and logistical feat. To navigate this immense complexity, we pioneered the first Project Delivery Partner (PDP) model in Malaysia. By taking on a single point of accountability, Gamuda guaranteed the successful delivery of the elevated section, firmly meeting strict standards for safety, quality, time, and cost.

Pioneering Subterranean Engineering

For the highly complex underground portion of the alignment, we moved beyond traditional excavation methods. To safely navigate the challenging, unpredictable geology beneath Kuala Lumpur, we successfully deployed the world's very first Variable Density Tunnel Boring Machine (VD-TBM), a revolutionary technology that set a new global standard in tunnelling.

This game-changing infrastructure was meticulously designed to serve the community and the environment:
