Project Advocacy and Outreach

Building Trust through Engagement

Partnering with communities to deliver complex projects and real outcomes.
OVERVIEW
Building stakeholder trust is central to how we deliver projects, using strong advocacy and engagement to secure buy-in and keep complex developments on track. We work across community outreach, partnerships, media, localisation, education, safety and environmental rehabilitation. These efforts create jobs, strengthen local supply chains, address urban challenges and improve quality of life at scale.

MRT Kajang and Putrajaya Lines

Stakeholder management was crucial to the successful planning and rollout of our MRT Kajang and Putrajaya Lines.

We navigated unique challenges during the rollout of the Pavilion KL-Bukit Bintang Station, Jalan Ipoh Station and HKL Station. This included devising a solution where properties would not be acquired via a Judicial Review, ensuring the continuity of local businesses and utility services. The busiest cross-junction in KL remained open throughout, while effective traffic dispersion ensured that main roads to the City Centre remained open and key areas routes (including Jalan Ipoh Secondary Girls’ School, Kuala Lumpur Hospital and Istana Budaya) were accessible. Additionally, the once-a-year Thaipusam chariot procession took place without hindrance.

Sydney Metro West - Western Tunnelling Package

Our international projects are a testament to the Group’s focus on generating multiplier value for the communities in which we operate. In Western Sydney, we have created more than 80,000 direct and indirect jobs, as well as built solid partnerships with local businesses and stakeholders.

We have made significant investments in engaging recognised Aboriginal businesses and subcontractors, engaging over 100 Australian and New Zealand SMEs in the project supply chain. We are proud to have directly engaged 20 Aboriginal businesses on the project, while Aboriginal peoples make up 3.9 percent of our Australian workforce for this project (as at September 2023).

From June 2022 to September 2023, we undertook approximately 300,000 stakeholder engagements:
Ongoing community information sessions.
Biannual newsletter distributions to Parramatta, Westmead, and Clyde communities.
Monthly construction notifications to stakeholders.
Community benefit initiatives, which included charitable donations and road safety awareness education for children.
Door knocks and closed loop communication.
Heritage Open Day community event at Parramatta.
Biannual Subcontractor Forums for key delivery partners.

Vietnam, Taiwan and Singapore

The key to our regional stakeholder engagements is localisation. We prioritise local hiring and local suppliers, which enables us to form close collaboration with the local authorities, media, businesses, NGOs, and public. Our engagements have evolved beyond communication to include education and upskilling programmes that uplift the supply chain and industries, with an emphasis on the human touch and building rapport on the ground. These proactive efforts drive socio-economic benefits to stakeholders as well as the wider communities.
