Leveraging our extensive local and regional expertise in constructing complex rail and metro systems, Gamuda has successfully secured the design and build contract for the vital first civil works package of the Penang Mutiara Line (MTL).
Awarded by MRT Mutiara Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of MRT Corporation Sdn Bhd) through a single-sourcing request for proposal, this landmark project will be delivered by the SRS Consortium. As the lead partner in this strategic joint venture, comprising Gamuda Berhad (60 percent), Loh Phoy Yen Holdings Sdn Bhd (20 percent), and Ideal Property Development Sdn Bhd (20 percent), we are poised to reshape how the island moves.

- Extensive Elevated Viaduct: Constructing a 23.7 km elevated guideway stretching from the bustling heart of George Town at Komtar directly to the newly developed Silicon Island (Penang South Reclamation Island A).
- Modern Transit Stations: Building 19 state-of-the-art, above-ground stations, alongside one provisional station strategically located on Silicon Island, to seamlessly connect communities.
- Comprehensive Depot Facilities: Developing a dedicated, high-tech depot on Silicon Island engineered for both the light and heavy maintenance of the rail fleet.
- Essential Ancillary Infrastructure: Delivering critical ancillary structures, convenient at-grade park-and-ride (AGPR) facilities, vital utility and service relocations, and extensive external surface works to ensure seamless integration with the existing cityscape.
Driving Economic and Sustainable Growth
Scheduled for completion within six years from the Notice to Proceed, the Mutiara Line is meticulously designed to do far more than simply move people from point A to point B. Once operational, it will fundamentally enhance mobility and connectivity, drastically alleviate crippling daily traffic congestion, and serve as a powerful catalyst for Penang’s economy and booming tourism sector.
