In 2024, we firmly solidified our presence in Taiwan’s infrastructure landscape by securing our seventh major project in the region: the highly anticipated Xizhi Donghu Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line.

Awarded by the New Taipei City Government, this landmark project is being delivered through a strategic joint venture. Taking a commanding 75 percent lead, representing a contract value of RM3.2 billion (NTD23.97 billion) for Gamuda, we are partnering with established local experts MiTAC Information Technology Corp and Dong Pi Co Limited to engineer this vital urban artery.

Designing a Seamless Urban Transit Corridor

Delivering a fully integrated transit system through such densely populated districts is a significant engineering and logistical feat. Estimated for completion within seven years, our comprehensive design and build scope moves far beyond standard rail construction:

• Elevated Infrastructure: Constructing 5.78 km of complex elevated viaducts and precision trackworks.
• Modern Transit Hubs: Delivering six state-of-the-art, above-ground stations designed for seamless passenger flow and community integration.
• Comprehensive System Works: Integrating advanced rolling stock, robust power supplies, precision signalling, platform screen doors, sophisticated communication and central monitoring systems, automated fare collection, and complete depot maintenance equipment.

A Blueprint for Future Expansion

Beyond the initial design and build phase, this joint venture is uniquely positioned to support Taiwan's long-term transit vision. When instructed by the New Taipei City Government, we are obligated to undertake pre-determined additional works valued at a staggering RM10.8 billion (NTD80 billion).

• Strategic Expansion Scope: This future phase encompasses the massive Xizhi Donghu Line Maintenance Depot, alongside the critical System and Trackworks for two major network extensions: the Keelung Line MRT and the Minsheng Line MRT.

With Gamuda’s share of these additional works reaching approximately RM8.1 billion (NTD60 billion), the total combined project value is set to scale to approximately RM15.1 billion.
