50 years of Gamuda, 30 years of scholarships: Expanding talent engine to drive long-term regional growth

As Gamuda Berhad celebrates 50 years of engineering excellence and nation-building, the Group is also marking 30 years of the Gamuda Scholarship under Yayasan Gamuda. With Gamuda’s growing regional business footprint across major infrastructure projects and emerging adjacent sectors, the Group is reinforcing its commitment to human capital development to directly fuel its long-term growth and project pipeline.

This year, the Group is scaling up its scholarship allocation to RM39 million to support 206 scholars—up from RM31 million in 2025. Selected from 4,096 applicants, the top 5% represent a deliberate eff ort to bring diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and technical capability straight into the organization.

“Our view on the scholarship has always been straightforward: talent is the single most critical asset for both nation-building and business expansion,” said Dato’ Lin Yun Ling, Gamuda Group Managing Director. “We focus on widening access to quality higher education, ensuring top global and local exposure for young leaders regardless of fi nancial background. When these scholars transition into our teams, their fresh ideas and varied perspectives directly strengthen the Group’s leadership framework.”

This year’s cohort refl ects Gamuda’s focus on widening access to quality higher education. Nearly 80% of scholars come from B40 and M40 households, with 15% allocated to East Malaysia and indigenous communities. Gamuda also remains the only Malaysian organisation off ering fully funded overseas scholarships at this scale, with 23 scholars attending top global institutions including Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University.

Beyond funding tertiary education, the scholarship serves as a direct pipeline into the Group’s leadership framework. Over three decades, scholars have built long-term careers within the organisation; today, half of the Group’s top 30 business leaders entered as Gamuda scholars, with high-potential individuals stepping into directorships and executive leadership roles in their late 20s and early 30s.

As Gamuda enters its next chapter after fi ve decades of growth and expands across nine international markets, returning scholars will directly contribute to engineering, infrastructure, property development, and digital technology. While AI continues to transform technical and operational workfl ows, human intelligence remains central to driving these tools—providing the strategic judgment, critical thinking, and prompting required to apply AI eff ectively. AI can execute complex tasks at scale, but it is human leadership and ingenuity that guide where technology goes. By combining global exposure with real operational accountability, the Group ensures its future leaders are equipped to direct both human and technological assets to solve complex regional challenges.
