A consortium led by Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd Australia (GE Australia), alongside Gamuda (Australia) Pty Ltd (GL Australia) and MTR Corporation (Australia) Pty Limited (MTR Australia), has been awarded the Sydney Metro West – Parramatta Integrated Station Development project. The station works component is valued at approximately AUD880 million (approximately RM2.54 billion), split 80:20 between GE Australia and MTR Australia.
“This is more than just another station award, it’s the first time all three partners have joined forces on one integrated transport-oriented development for Parramatta,” said Ewan Yee, Chief Executive Officer of GE Australia. “We are thankful for the trust Sydney Metro has in our delivery track record, built through the Western Tunnelling Package. Each station award has furthered our commitment to create new jobs and bring lasting improvements for the community.”
This new award marks Gamuda’s third Sydney Metro contract win, following its maiden Australian infrastructure project, Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package (WTP), and the recently awarded Stations Package West (SPW) contract, which will see the delivery of five stations on the Metro West line at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays. Parramatta ISD will be the sixth station Gamuda will deliver for Sydney Metro, further cementing its position as one of the network’s trusted delivery partners.
A Three-Way Partnership Built for Parramatta
Beyond constructing the station, the consortium will involve GL Australia in the over and adjacent-station property development.
Gamuda’s infrastructure capabilities, coupled with real estate placemaking expertise, are further strengthened by MTR Australia, whose parent company MTR Corporation is a global leader in rail operations and transit-oriented development, and is the principal shareholder of Metro Trains Sydney, operator of the Sydney Metro M1 Northwest & Bankstown Line. MTR is also a delivery partner in the consortium selected to provide trains, systems, operations and maintenance for the future Sydney Metro West line.
Situated in Parramatta, Sydney’s second CBD, the project capitalises on surging demand for connected precincts ahead of the Metro West opening, targeted for 2032. Detailed design and project activities will begin upon award on 4 September 2026.
Consortium partner MTR Australia looks forward to expanding its transit-oriented development portfolio, drawing on its extensive experience in operating the Sydney Metro network. “We are honoured to contribute to this landmark project for Parramatta and Western Sydney. The project provides an opportunity for MTR to apply our experience in integrating transport infrastructure with residential, commercial and community developments to create well-connected, vibrant and people-focused urban precincts. We look forward to working closely with Sydney Metro, the New South Wales Government and our partners to deliver a vibrant station precinct that supports Parramatta’s continued growth and creates long-term value for passengers, residents, businesses and the wider community,” said Mr David Tang, Managing Director – Property and International Business of MTR Corporation.
Gamuda Growth in Australia
Gamuda Berhad’s Australian footprint dates back more than a decade, anchored by two wholly-owned sub-subsidiaries – GL Australia established in 2015 and GE Australia in 2019. Operating in Sydney and Melbourne, the Group has scaled steadily by pairing international engineering expertise with top-tier local talents and partners.
For Gamuda, the Parramatta Integrated Station Development award reinforces Australia as the Group’s largest overseas base and a primary growth engine for its regional diversification strategy. It also demonstrates the value of Gamuda’s multi-disciplinary approach, combining engineering delivery (GE Australia), property expertise (GL Australia) and global operations partner (MTR Australia), creating a distinct proposition for future transport-oriented projects.
