Gamuda pledges RM31 million in scholarships to support 183 students’ education

Awarded RM31 million in scholarships to 183 students, pledging RM35 million in 2026

Gamuda Berhad demonstrates how strategic private sector investment can simultaneously expand access and guarantee quality outcomes. Through its foundation, Yayasan Gamuda, the group has awarded full financial scholarships amounting to RM31 million to 183 deserving students (up from 129 students in 2024) under the Gamuda Scholarship. It also pledges to expand this support to RM35 million in 2026.

The scholarship programme aims to ease the financial burden of tertiary education for high potential youth, reinforcing Gamuda’s steadfast commitment to provide equal opportunities and inclusivity in education for deserving, young Malaysians, believing that it is the foundation towards national progress.

“We believe that education is the great equaliser, a tool of empowerment, upliftment and a fundamental driver of national progress. These principles continue to drive our commitment year after year through the Gamuda Scholarship, now in its 29th year,” said Dato’ Lin Yun Ling, Gamuda Group Managing Director.

He added, “We continue to address inequalities in education and ensure that our home-grown talent, regardless of background, gets the backing needed to thrive. Significantly, 80% of this year’s scholars come from B40 and M40 households, directly contributing to social mobility objectives while ensuring the nation’s talent pipeline draws from its full demographic potential.”

Upholding Gamuda’s ethos of inclusivity, the group has awarded 36 scholarships to East Malaysian students, of which 22 are from Sabah and 14 are from Sarawak. In the meantime, a total of 27 scholarships were awarded to Malaysia’s Indigenous communities, consisting of Orang Asli from West Malaysia and Orang Asal Sabah and Sarawak. A 29% increase compared to 2024, this year marks the largest indigenous scholarship allocation, directly supporting national reconciliation and diversity while building comprehensive talent base.

This year saw an uptake of 4,493 applications (a 35% increase from 2024), with scholarships awarded to the top 4% of applicants. Among the recipients, 21 exceptional scholars will be furthering their education at prominent universities around the world, such as Imperial College London, University of Melbourne, Peking University, National University of Singapore and others, continuing the tradition of nurturing globally competitive talent.

In addition to courses related to construction, the Gamuda scholars are enrolled in a diverse range of fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines such as artificial intelligence (AI), environmental science, IT and engineering, as well as non-STEM disciplines like psychology, communications, and finance.

Gamuda Scholarship is a comprehensive ecosystem that combines academic funding, soft skills development, mentorship and structured development, preparing scholars for future roles across Gamuda’s diversified businesses in Malaysia and internationally.

Since its establishment in 1996 and with a total scholarship sum surpassing RM144 million, the Gamuda Scholarship has awarded over 946 students to take charge of their lives, their careers and broaden their perspectives.

As Gamuda continues to grow and venture into new sectors, its scholarship programme continues to serve as a testament to its commitment to nurturing talented Malaysians into future leaders and contributing to the country’s development, as well as social mobility objectives.
